Leah’s Blog Parshat Yitro February 2026 – Sometimes I stand over my kids like Sinai over Israel in which they have no option but to obey. It says they stood as one man with one heart – that is my aim actually amongst many things. I’m not comparing myself to G-d chahss veshalom but I, as the maternal parental influencer, need to set down the rules- pull by the ear – make nice on the cheek at the same time. I’m preparing my kids as they walk through this wilderness of life – giving them tools as they grow into their tribes. As my family grows and more and more settings are placed on the table Baruch HaShem, I feel that preparedness is now more than ever essential in having success at this. We don’t talk about this enough.

Following the guideline for life- Parshat Yitro- the story of Sinai and where we met is about awareness, making yourself ready. In order to receive you must prepare the vessel. HaShem and we have a reciprocal relationship. That’s what parenting blossoms into. He gives. You give. He does. You do. Parshat Yitro is a turning point in the story of Israel. Prior to the giving of the Torah, we read about the sagas of our Patriarchs and Matriarchs learning through stories. About how sisters give up something for one another, about remaining loyal and not coveting, about honoring your parents, about serving ONE God. We learn about accountability and tikkun. The Torah spells it out for us in actual words. The precursor to life soon in the homeland, the place Yosef appealed to be brought back to. The Torah is given AGAIN on the two mountains surrounding Shechem and translated into seventy languages for all the world to know it. Now too we have returned.
