Leah’s Blog – Jerusalem Day
Jerusalem Day – 2026 – Leah’s blog
These stones have been waiting to tell you their story.
We are driving on a ridge of mountain that spreads from north to south plunked down in the very center of Israel. High up here you are on the range of the path of the Patriarchs, where it all began. The hills and mountains were witness to a long deserted wait and now- restoration. The wellsprings along the way flow, hidden underneath- the largest aquifer in Israel. Vineyards come to life now carpeting new frontier in green. The beginning of settlement happened here- the legacy and covenant of Israel. Blue and white flags adorn the sides of the road reaffirming where we are right now.
All roads lead to Jerusalem…
We are driving south of Itamar now. On the way you can see caves where Jews hid from the Romans at the time of the destruction of the second temple. If they could only see us now in this traffic jam. Carving out stone rock is not an easy task and the buggers work in a grinding sound as dust billows all around. The road is widening. It takes much work but the road must accommodate the ever growing traffic to Jerusalem. The influx into the city grows and grows and you begin to imagine pilgrims on Shavuot carrying their fruit and offerings in weaved baskets of the golden hay from the fields as they look right now. The procession was majestic, immense and beautiful.
Ascend with me now as we backtrack. Retrace your steps now to one- Abraham who walked this path to serve up his son on Mount Moriah. He was one and stood on one side while the whole world stood on the other. That is what Ivri means- because we are MEYEYVER. (beyond) Avraham stood on a mountain.
Yitzchak went out to meditate toward evening – yet what was described as a mountain now becomes a field. Mincha service is said at a time of Divine mercy, it was here that he was spared up on this primordial porch of stone – emphasizing the ideal of life. It was here that he met his wife and a new generation was put into motion.
Yaakov- On this same field where his father prayed, Yaakov has a profound vision. Taking stones from that place, he placed them around his head where they all merged into one. This is a prophecy of a House, his house- his family- the tribes of Israel and later a HOUSE is built which becomes Beit HaMikdash after King David purchased “the field” from the Jebusites.
Thousands of years have passed. We are back.
Jerusalem is getting a face lift. Its streets are ripped open, its buildings in scaffolds. You can’t help but be crammed into the electric motion of what is happening here. Jerusalem of gold, the sunset tips off the Mount of Olives. The wellsprings from below overflow now- the wellsprings from above prepare for something to come. The shofar blasts reverberate throughout the world. The stones are speaking to us now. A crowd comes dancing encircling the walls of the old city, it leads the masses to look upon the place You call HOME.
