Leah’s Blog – Parshat Korach 2026
Leah’s Blog – Parshat Korach – The story has it that a prominent venerable elder sage was asked what the mystical meaning was behind the fact that he would always only cut his nails after exiting the mikvah. Without blinking he looked at who asked him and said bluntly “my nails get soft in the water – it’s easier.” We have these ideas about things like chariots of fire will appear, a perfectly built Jerusalem will fall out of the sky, and that halos will crown our kings. Turmoil and mundane are hidden in the miracles happening now – we are taught to take a deeper look. Parshat Korach has Moshe Rabbienu not being spared from what Bibi and POTUS are experiencing. Humans are with human faults and no one is perfect. Mistakes are made, there are setbacks, there is always someone plotting and trying to defeat from time immemorial. The Greeks had man gods, Pharoh called himself a god, all we have left of them is pyramids and golden coffins. The ancient civilizations are no more- It was near the acropolis at Antiochu ‘s grave that gave me the miraculous perspective – a Jewish woman living in the heartland of Israel that returned after the Greeks, the Romans, through generations of time but we are back – from Athens to Israel, I went home smiling. Men are not gods- HaShem reveals Himself- the sole creator of the universe in the hidden but obvious things. King David was a mortal man with fallings that the Torah takes the effort to tell. He had plenty of Korachs, even his own son. The sons of Korach we know rose above the misgivings serving in song, prophecy sprouted out of the prayers of Chana- Shmuel the prophet- the descendant of Korach. Antiochus and the pharaohs are closed books of history and we- we live on- in a world of choosing what to see, what to do. Donald Trump wavers and zigzags- he is only a human. Bibi is grilled and a victim of the court system of judges that hold disproportionately political power holding him hostage over bogus charges ( like receiving a bugs bunny and some cigars from a supporter) Korach is an important parsha – Am Yisrael has forever had this counterforce – it is human flaw laced into the story of how we became a nation, need the Torah to know how to be moral and ethical, to live in a land- the Land HaShem gave to Israel – then it was a miracle and now it is too!
